Working at Charité
The Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is dedicated to biomedical translation. Its mission is to translate research findings into personalized prevention, diagnostics, and therapies to benefit patients and provide the scientific community with effective tools. With approximately 750 employees, the BIH specializes in translational method development, precision medicine, regenerative therapies, and biomedical data science. Closely integrated with Charité, the BIH promotes excellent research and facilitates the accelerated transfer of new discoveries into clinical practice through its supporting platforms and programs. Through these efforts, the BIH builds strong partnerships and fosters innovation-driven medicine in both national and international contexts.
The Beule lab at the Berlin Institute of Health at the Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin (BIH) is looking for a highly motivated doctoral student for a fully funded, three-year doctoral position to investigate the role of non-coding RNAs and transcriptional regulation within the hypothalamic-pituitary endocrine axis of the brain.
The doctoral project is conducted under the supervision of Dr. Andranik Ivanov and involves close collaboration with international experimental research partners.
What you can expect
The aim of this doctoral project is to enlighten transcriptional and post-transcriptional regulatory mechanisms in neuroendocrine systems, with a particular focus on non-coding RNAs. The project combines the development and application of computer-aided methods with the analysis and integration of large-scale, high-dimensional biological data sets from brain tissues.
The candidate works with complex data sets containing multiple biological and technical covariates and contributes to the reconstruction of RNA-mediated regulatory networks. The project includes integrative multi-omics analyses, advanced statistical modeling and the targeted use of machine learning methods, provided that they are biologically useful. The close cooperation with experimental partners ensures a strong biological anchorage and hypothesis-guided data analysis.
What you bring along
Required qualifications
Completed or completed by the start date Masters degree in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computer Science or a related subject
Strong interest and proven experience in analyzing Omics data
Very good programming knowledge in Python or R and Bash
Secure and routine handling of Linux-based computing environments
Practical experience with high-performance computers (HPC clusters)
Desirable Qualifications
Experience with large-scale biological data sets (e.g. B. transcriptomics, small RNA data, proteomics or related data)
Experience with multi-parametric and multi-covariate statistical models
familiarity with CLIP-seq-based methods (e.g. B. miR-eCLIP)
Background or strong interest in neuroscience or RNA biology
Other relevant skills and methodological expertise are very welcome.
What we offer you
A fully funded PhD position for 3 years in a cooperative and stimulating research environment
Integration into the Core Unit Bioinformatics, a large, international, and interdisciplinary group of bioinformaticians, software developers, physicists, statisticians, and life scientists
A friendly, open, and collaborative working atmosphere with strong collegial exchange
