The Institute of Clinical Molecular Biology (IKMB) is dedicated to understanding the pathophysiology of chronic inflammatory diseases, with a particular focus on inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). Its research has contributed to elucidating how interactions between environmental factors, such as the microbiome, and host factors, including IBD risk genes, drive chronic intestinal inflammation.

We invite applications for a PhD student position in a DFG-funded research project in computational immunology. The project focuses on the development of computational methods for the analysis of immune repertoires and large-scale single-cell assays. The position is based at IKMB, which hosts one of the four national DFG-funded sequencing centres in Germany and is embedded in several high-profile research initiatives, including the DFG Excellence Clusters “Precision Medicine in Chronic Inflammation” (PMI) and ROOTS.

Join our team

We are looking for a highly motivated PhD student to join a DFG-funded research project in computational immunology as soon as possible. The position is initially fixed-term for three years.

The position is available for a period of three years. Salary will be according to pay grade E13 TV-L.

The position is part-time, corresponding to 75% of a full-time position, with the opportunity to pursue a PhD thesis.

Your tasks:

Computational analysis of high-throughput sequencing data.

Working with large-scale immune sequencing databases.

Development and application of computational methods for immune repertoire and single-cell data analysis.

Your profile:

Completed academic degree, such as a Masters or Diploma, in bioinformatics, mathematics, computer science, or a related discipline.

A computational background in bioinformatics is essential, and a background in immunology would be helpful.

Experience in bioinformatics and a strong interest in developing and applying innovative computational approaches for immune profiling.

A clear interest in the research topic and disease area under study is essential.

Very good written and spoken English skills are required.
