Job posting - incl. criteria (pdf)
We are looking for an internationally renowned researcher with proven expertise in the development and application of translational organoid models for the investigation of tissue organization, immune homeostasis, and disease mechanisms. A focus on inflammatory metabolic, or genetic diseases is desirable. The professorship will establish pioneering in vitro models (e.g., immune cell-competent and multi-tissue organoids) and modern functional analyses, such as CRISPR/Cas-based perturbation methods, single-cell and spatial omics, and advanced imaging. Ideally, there will be a translational focus with relevance to inflammatory metabolic disease patterns.
Active participation in existing collaborative projects is expected, in particular in SFB 1454 “Metaflammation” or Research Unit 5775 “MagNet,” as well as in faculty-wide and interfaculty initiatives that bring together expertise in modeling, organoid technology, and translational research. Cooperation with clinical partners and international networks is explicitly desired.
The use of patient-derived cells (e.g., from biobank samples) as an approach to study general pathophysiological principles is encouraged. An in-depth understanding of the interaction of organoids with immune cells, regenerative signaling pathways, and the microenvironment, including the use of humanized in vivo systems, is advantageous. The future holder of the position should establish an internationally visible research group with a translational focus and high potential for third-party funding. Integration into the excellent research environment of the University of Bonn, in particular active participation in the ImmunoSensation3 Cluster of Excellence, is expected.
Teaching is an integral part of the professorship and covers all levels of the degree programs in German and English. A high-quality teaching concept is expected. Non-native speakers are expected to be able to teach in German within a reasonable time frame. Active participation in academic self-administration is expected. The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 HG (NRW).
The University of Bonn is committed to diversity and equal opportunity. It is certified as a family-friendly university. It aims to increase the proportion of women in areas where women are under-represented and to promote their careers in particular. It therefore strongly encourages women with relevant qualifications to apply. Applications will be handled in accordance with the Landesgleichstellungsgesetz (State Equality Act). Applications from suitable individuals with a certified serious disability and those of equal status are particularly welcome.
Applications are to be submitted in English with the usual documents (CV, list of publications, research and teaching concept, third-party funding) by June 15, 2026 via the appointment portal of the University of Bonn: .
