The Berlin Institute of Health at Charité (BIH) is dedicated to biomedical translation. For the work group Prof. Dr. Daniel Ortmann starting from 01.08.2026 limited until 31.07.2029 we are looking for a PhD. Student (d/f/m) in part-time (25,03h/week).
The central scientific theme of the Ortmann research group is cellular programming. We use the latest techniques to control cellular identity in order to generate commercially and clinically relevant cell types with improved functionality.
What you can expect
Generate constructs with various molecular cloning techniques
Grow iPSCs and genetically modify them with generated constructs
Determine reprogramming conditions to obtain macrophages with the desired functionality
Evaluate macrophages with a variety of assays
Plan, organize and execute experiment plans
Manage common laboratory tasks
Write grant reports
What you bring along
A good university degree (Masters or equivalent) in a STEM field or a related discipline
Experience with cell culture (stem cells and/or immune cells)
Expertise in molecular biology (cloning, Gateway, Gibson assembly, CRISPR/CAS9, gene targeting)
Experience with other standard laboratory techniques (PCR, qPCR, flow cytometry, imaging, etc.)
Experience in working independently while keeping a strong team spirit
Strong self-motivation, organizational skills, and ability to lead and develop scientific projects
Scientific curiosity, analytical thinking, and interest in contributing to projects
Ability to work in a team of young scientists, to be flexible, and flourish in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, ability to work collaborate effectively with individuals of different backgrounds in a multidisciplinary team, team orientated with excellent organizational skills including project management and good record keeping important
Fluent English
What we offer you
A varied job in a forward-looking research institute
Pay group E13 TVöD VKA-K. The classification is based on qualifications, the respective experience level is calculated on the basis of professional experience. The annual salary (gross) is stated for a full-time position without special or additional payments. The collective agreement can be found here .
