Working at Charité
The history of scientific pathology at the Charité dates back to Rudolf Virchow, who was appointed to the Chair of Pathological Anatomy at the Charité in 1831. Today, the institute provides the foundation for clinical diagnosis and treatment for over 40,000 patients. Research within the institute is driven by several research groups using a broad spectrum of state-of-the-art methods and focuses on the molecular heterogeneity of tumors, the role of the immune system in tumor development and treatment resistance, as well as the development and application of AI and computer-aided methods for image analysis and single-cell analysis in personalized therapy.
Overview of the position
The position is part of the DEFEAT PDAC Consortium of the German Pancreatic Alliance, a consortium of 15 research groups funded by German Cancer Aid,
The position is in the research group led by Prof. Dr. Christine Sers at the Institute of Pathology, Charité Campus Mitte. We are an interdisciplinary and international team of creative colleagues addressing various aspects of treatment resistance in solid tumors,
The project focuses on the treatment resistance of pancreatic cancer to RAS inhibitors. This aspect will be investigated using various in vitro experimental methods to identify opportunities for improved therapy. A particular focus of the project is the role of mechanical properties in regulating signaling pathways and their influence on treatment response. In addition to mechanically-focused experimental studies on 2D and 3D cultures, this includes high-throughput analyses at the RNA and protein levels, as well as their bioinformatic evaluation,
Interdisciplinary collaboration within the consortium and exchange with colleagues at the national and international levels are key components of the project. This includes presenting results at consortium meetings as well as at national and international conferences. Active participation in expanding the network and strengthening external collaborations is also expected.
You will be employed as a research assistant: According to §110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG provides for research assistants to be allotted an appropriate amount of time during their working hours for their own professional development in research
What we are looking for
You have a bachelors or masters degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline
You have a Ph.D. in tumor biology and can demonstrate experimental experience in 2D cell culture, organoid culture, various cell and molecular biology methods, as well as high-throughput transcriptomic or proteomic analyses,
You have a solid theoretical foundation in biochemistry and oncogenic signal transduction, as well as excellent written and spoken English skills,
Proficiency in standard computer applications (e.g., MS Office) as well as knowledge of R Studio/Python and ImageJ is a given for you,
You demonstrate a high level of commitment and enthusiasm for scientific work, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team and a willingness to actively contribute within the consortium. Furthermore, you are committed to your personal professional development
