Working at Charité
The Institute for AI in Medicine, established at Charité in November 2025, systematically integrates computer science with medicine and the basic sciences. Its portfolio spans fundamental AI research, the development of clinical applications, and their rigorous evaluation in routine healthcare settings. The institute places a strong emphasis on application-oriented research and development. In close collaboration with the Berlin Institute for the Foundations of Learning and Data (BIFOLD), it develops novel AI methods, adapts them to medical use cases, and translates them into clinical practice.
Overview of the position
You will join HumAMI, a three-year project funded under the Chips Joint Undertaking and co-financed by the European Union and the BMFTR. Within this project, our research focuses on the development and clinical validation of multimodal, contact-free technologies for the acquisition and monitoring of cardiovascular biosignals. In addition, we aim to advance cardiovascular telemonitoring by integrating longitudinal biosignal data, clinical decision-support systems, and agentic AI.
Your responsibilities include:
the scientific and operational coordination of data science activities within the project, as well as collaboration with clinical, technical, and academic partners and support of project management
the design, implementation, and evaluation of methods for analyzing longitudinal time series and multimodal biosignal data
the development and validation of machine learning and deep learning models for physiological state assessment, pattern recognition, and clinically relevant prediction
the conception and development of a Clinical Decision Support System integrating medical guidelines, clinical knowledge, and longitudinal biosignal data, including the use of retrieval-augmented generation and agentic AI approaches
the professional guidance and co-supervision of doctoral candidates and research staff
The position is offered as a research associate role. In accordance with § 110 (4) sentence 3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act (BerlHG), scientific staff are granted appropriate time during working hours to pursue their own academic qualification.
What we are looking for
You hold a completed scientific university degree in computer science, statistics, mathematics, bioinformatics, medical informatics, or a comparable field, as well as a PhD in one of these disciplines.
You also bring
several years of relevant professional experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, medical data analysis, or comparable data-driven research and development fields - ideally in a clinical context - as well as a proven track record in independently addressing scientific questions and in the conception, execution, and publication of research projects
strong proficiency in at least one modern programming language for data science and software development (e.g., Python or R)
excellent communication and teamwork skills, along with a strong interest in interdisciplinary collaboration, a structured and independent working style, including the ability to plan, prioritise, and manage project tasks au
