The Experimental Biophysics and Mechanobiology research group investigates how physical forces and nanoscale cell–material interactions regulate immune-cell functions. We combine quantitative cell biology, high-resolution microscopy, bioengineering, and data analysis within an interdisciplinary and international research environment.
Our research group is embedded within the research environment of the Center for Musculoskeletal Surgery (CMSC), the Julius Wolff Institute (JWI), and the BIH Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT).
Overview of the position
You will independently conduct a research project investigating the mechanical regulation of T-cell activation. Your responsibilities will include:
-Establishing correlative super-resolution microscopy workflows
-Fabricating and characterizing nanoporous substrates
-Culturing primary T cells and performing functional assays
-Conducting quantitative image and data analysis and integrating the results with single-cell transcriptomic data
-Publishing and presenting research findings and providing scientific supervision to students
You will be employed as a research associate. In accordance with Section 110(4), sentence 3 of the Berlin Higher Education Act, academic staff are granted an appropriate proportion of their working time for their own further academic qualification.
What we are looking for
You have a degree in the field of biophysics, cell biology, immunology, bionengineering or a related field
You have already gained valuable professional experience in fluorescence or super-resolution microscopy and quantitative image analysis
You have experience with cell culture and immune cells; experience with flow cytometry is a plus, and you have programming skills, e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R
Your working style is characterised by an independent, structured approach to scientific work and excellent English skills

Information regarding the position
Paygrade E13 according to TVöD VKA-K. Your job grade depends on your job qualification whereas the experience level depends on the number of working years. The yearly gross salary is hereby provided based on a full time position excluding yearly bonus and additional pay. You may find further information here
Working hours is full-time with up to 38.5 hours per week
