Working at the Charité
The Ralser Lab at Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin investigates how cells control their metabolism on a large scale. With a focus on yeast, we use functional genomics and advanced mass spectrometry to study how genes and metabolic pathways interact. Our goal is to uncover basic principles of metabolism that are relevant for cancer, immunology, metabolic diseases, and clinical diagnostics.
As part of the ImmunoPreCept Cluster of Excellence, we are developing approaches to extract biological information from complex, large-scale proteomics datasets by combining them with genomics and computational methods. The project brings together method development, quantitative data analysis, and biological discovery, using unique datasets from microbial systems, microbiomes, and patient cohorts.
Overview of the position
Position Overview
We are looking for a computational biologist / bioinformatician with a strong interest in quantitative biology and mass spectrometry-based proteomics.
A major focus of the project will be the development of computational and statistical approaches for analyzing complex proteomics datasets. You will investigate how experimental design, sample complexity, mass spectrometry acquisition, and data-processing strategies influence quantitative results and their biological interpretation.
The project provides access to exceptional large-scale datasets and biological resources, including proteomic datasets from microbial communities, gut microbiomes, patient cohorts, and yeast strain libraries. These systems will provide opportunities to apply and further develop computational approaches in areas ranging from microbial physiology and systems biology to host–microbe interactions and inflammatory disease.
You will:
Generate systematic proteomic datasets as part of a collaborative team effort
Develop and apply statistical and quantitative approaches to extract biological information from high-dimensional data
Integrate proteomics data with other biological data, e.g. genomics data, and clinical information
Collaborate closely with mass spectrometry experts, experimental scientists, computational biologists, immunologists, and clinicians
You will be employed as a postdoctoral researcher: According to §110 (4), sentence 3, the BerlHG provides for postdoctoral researchers to be allotted an appropriate amount of time during their working hours for their own academic development.
What we are looking for
What we are looking for
PhD in bioinformatics, computational biology, systems biology, or related quantitative field
Experience in the analysis of biological data, especially mass spectrometry-based proteomics data
Strong knowledge of statistical and quantitative methods for analyzing complex, high-dimensional datasets
Good understanding of the principles of biochemical methods, including mass spectrometry
Good programming skills in Python and R
Strong communication skills, ability to work in interdisciplinary teams, and proven publication track record
Ability to work independently while collaborating across research groups
