Stellenbeschreibung

The research group of Dr Kevin Ciminski at the Institute of Virology, University Medical Center Freiburg, is recruiting for the ERC Starting Grant project FLU-ARMOR

Postdoctoral Researcher in Influenza Virology and Innate Immunity (m/f/d)

Background: The research group of Dr Kevin Ciminski investigates molecular virus–host interactions that determine the zoonotic and pandemic potential of influenza A viruses. Within the ERC Starting Grant project FLU-ARMOR, we will examine how zoonotic influenza viruses overcome MxA-mediated human innate immune restriction and acquire traits associated with human adaptation. By combining experimental analyses of viral immune-evasion mechanisms with AI-assisted surveillance approaches, the project aims to identify molecular risk signatures and establish a mechanistically informed framework for the early assessment of emerging influenza viruses and contribute to pandemic preparedness.

We offer:

a central scientific role in the newly established ERC Starting Grant project FLU-ARMOR

the opportunity to develop an independent research profile and supervise junior researchers

access to state-of-the-art BSL-3 laboratories, imaging, sequencing and animal facilities

close interaction with national and international collaborators in virology, immunology and computational biology

structured mentoring and support for publications, conference participation, and future fellowship applications

a full-time position (38.5h/week) for five years, with remuneration according to TV-L E13

an attractive research and living environment in Freiburg, a vibrant university city located at the edge of the Black Forest

Your profile - required qualifications:

PhD in virology, infection biology, or related fields

proven experience in molecular virology, virus-host interactions or innate immunity

independent, highly motivated researcher eager to adapt to novel technologies and methodologies

demonstrated collaborative skills and commitment to scientific excellence
