Stellenbeschreibung
PhD Student (gn*) Pediatric Brain Tumor Research
Kennziffer: 12603
Start: 01.01.2027 | Fixed-term for 3 years | Part-time with 65% | Salary according to TV-L E13 | Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, University Childrens Hospital Münster
We are UKM. We have a clear social mission and, with our focus on healthcare, research, and teaching, we bear a unique responsibility.
To meet our high standards every day, we are looking forward to your scientific expertise in the Department of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology at the University Childrens Hospital Münster. The Riedel group investigates tumor–host organ niche interactions and intercellular communication in pediatric brain tumors. Our research focuses on understanding how the neuronal microenvironment interacts with and supports tumor growth, and how tumor cells actively shape and reprogram their surrounding microenvironment. A particular focus of our work is the emerging field of cancer neuroscience in pediatric brain tumors.
In the project, we aim to identify how pediatric brain tumor cells reprogram their neuronal microenvironment and how these interactions influence tumor behavior. A particular focus will be on neurotransmitter signaling. We will investigate whether this signaling might contribute to tumor-supportive neuronal–tumor interactions and determine whether targeting this signaling pathway may represent a potential therapeutic strategy.
– ideally with you on board!
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Organoid-based experiments to investigate tumor–neuronal interactions
Analysis and interpretation of experimental data, including single-cell sequencing and related single-cell approaches
Experimental validation of findings identified through high-throughput and computational analyses
Investigation of the molecular and cellular mechanisms underlying neuronal signaling in ETMR
Development of new experimental approaches and contribution to the interpretation and presentation of research findings
Close collaboration with researchers within the department and collaborating teams
You will be supported in cell culture, organoid models, and data analysis by established experimental protocols and bioinformatic pipelines available within the department.
REQUIREMENTS:
Masters degree or equivalent in biology or a related field
Practical experience in cell culture and molecular biology techniques, such as RNA/DNA extraction and sequencing
Strong interest in cancer biology, tumor–microenvironment interactions and organoid models
Willingness to learn and apply new experimental and analytical approaches
Strong analytical skills and the ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a team
Commitment to scientific rigor and interdisciplinary research
Desirable: experience with organoid culture and/or familiarity with bioinformatics and data analysis, particularly single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq); willingness to develop these skills is equally welcome
WE OFFER:
Salary according to TV-L E13, extra annual payment, and company pension plan (VBL)
30 days of vacation per year, plus two additional days off on Christmas Eve and New Years Eve
A wide range of training and professional development opportunities
A respectful and appreciative work environment within a diverse team
Support and advisory services for health and work-life balance
Additional benefits such as sports programs, job ticket, jobrad, company events, cafeteria, and emergency childcare
