Stellenbeschreibung
What are you waiting for? We are looking for you – starting immediately! We are recruiting for a newly established DFG Emmy Noether Research Group at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, University Medical Center Freiburg
Doctoral Researcher / PhD Position in Hematology / Oncology Research (m/f/d)
We are recruiting for a newly established DFG Emmy Noether Research Group at the Division of Pediatric Hematology and Oncology, University Medical Center Freiburg, working at the interface of leukemia biology, translational metabolomics and ribosome profiling. The group is embedded in a high-profile collaborative environment spanning the DKTK (German Cancer Consortium) partner site Freiburg and DKFZ Heidelberg. This environment offers an exceptional platform to build a strong scientific foundation in translational AML research.
Our research addresses one of the unmet clinical needs in oncology: understanding how acute myeloid leukemia (AML) cells survive and persist under therapeutic stress, and how this chemoresistance can be therapeutically disrupted. Using cutting-edge approaches including ribosome profiling, single-cell analysis, metabolomics, in vivo models and patient-derived xenografts (PDX), we dissect the metabolic and translational programs that drive treatment resistance and clonal heterogeneity in AML, in close collaboration with leading national and international partners in the field.
We are looking for a highly motivated doctoral researcher (m/f/d) who wants to contribute to this research program as part of a structured PhD project, with close mentorship and the opportunity to develop a strong scientific and technical profile.
We offer:
the opportunity to conduct your doctoral research within a newly funded, growing Emmy Noether group at the interface of leukemia research, metabolic approaches and translational oncology
integration into the University Medical Center Freiburg and German Cancer Consortium network, providing access to expertise, infrastructure and collaborative opportunities across one of Europes recognized cancer research consortia
a state-of-the-art laboratory and access to core facilities at the University Medical Center and DKFZ Heidelberg
close supervision and mentorship, combined with the opportunity to actively contribute to your projects scientific direction
structured doctoral training, including access to graduate school resources, and support in developing your skills in experimental design, data analysis, and scientific writing
Your Tasks:
perform experiments using ribosome and polysome profiling workflows, metabolic profiling, functional cell-based assays and drug sensitivity assays
contribute to in vivo experiments in (patient-derived xenograft) mouse models
analyze sequencing and multi-omic data using established pipelines, in close collaboration with bioinformaticians
maintain accurate documentation and adhere to laboratory safety standards
present your work at meetings and, as the project progresses, at conferences
Your profile:
a Masters degree (or equivalent) in biology, biochemistry, molecular medicine, or a related field
excellent background in cell and molecular biology, with a strong interest in translational cancer research
laboratory experience with cell culture and functional cell-based assays (e.g., through your Bachelors/Masters thesis); prior exposure to animal models is a plus
a highly motivated, independent, collaborative working style
professional working proficiency in
